A urologist warns of the risks of peeing just in case: "It seems harmless, but it can upset your bladder."

Going to the bathroom "just in case" before leaving the house, upon arriving at work, or before going to bed is a very common habit. However, Dr. Cristina Barrera, known on TikTok for sharing health topics, warns that this practice can affect the bladder and cause problems with urination control.

"Although it seems harmless, it can disrupt normal bladder function," explains @laurologadetiktok in a video posted on TikTok. She explains that when a person empties their bladder "without a real need," they are "teaching their body to anticipate it."

The explanation has a physiological basis. The bladder is an organ that functions as an elastic reservoir that progressively fills with urine until it reaches a threshold that triggers the urge reflex. If it empties prematurely repeatedly, that threshold is modified.

This can translate into more frequent bathroom visits, a feeling of urgency, and even difficulty holding urine as before. " The bladder adapts and begins to warn you ahead of time with lower volumes," he says.

"If you don't feel like it, it's not the right time. Respecting the urge to urinate means taking care of your control and your health ," Barrera concludes. However, she warns that there are exceptions, such as people with urological conditions.
